PhD scholarship in Lifelong Learning and the Social Psychology of Everyday Life

A three-year PhD scholarship at the PhD School in Lifelong Learning and Social Psychology of Everyday Life at the Department of Psychology and Educational Studies (PAES),

The department has a special interest in PhD project proposals within the following areas:

  • Work life studies, e.g. illuminated by individualization/collectivity, learning, or health promotion and strategies
  • University studies, e.g. illuminated by processes of inclusion/exclusion, rethinking problem based project work, or university student’s everyday life

Furthermore applications within other research areas of the department are welcomed: Everyday life and learning of children and youth; gender, body, and learning; subject, technology, and social practice; social practice and healthcare, and social entrepreneurship. The department’s research groups and programs can be found here: http://www.ruc.dk/paes_en/

The Graduate School in Lifelong Learning and the Social Psychology of Everyday Life offers two graduate programs focusing on lifelong learning and everyday social psychology. The Stipend in question will be affiliated to the relevant program in accordance with the PhD application.

For more information please visit:
The Graduate School in Lifelong Learning and the Social Psychology of Everyday Life: http://www.ruc.dk/paes_en/phd/

For additional information please contact:
- Director of the PhD School, Linda Lundgaard Andersen, the Graduate School in Lifelong Learning, E-mail: lla@ruc.dk
- Program Director Charlotte Højholt, the PhD program in Social Psychology of Everyday Life, E-mail: charc@ruc.dk
- Academic Coordinator, Mikael Meldstad, E-mail: mdm@ruc.dk, tel. (+45) 4674 2732

The conditions of employment are in accordance with the agreement by the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.

The application must encompass:

  • Application form: http://www.ruc.dk/paes_en/phd/info/application_form_PhD/
  • Project description (4-6 pages)
  • Schedule – time-frame of the PhD
  • Budget (only if special costs are incurred due to particular empirical studies – or longer stays overseas)
  • CV
  • Copies of relevant diplomas and exam-papers
  • Copies of relevant recommendations and dissertation statement/statements

The project description must describe the area of interest, the considered methods, and the theoretical approaches.

The purpose of the project description is to enable the PhD school to consider the relevance of the project, possible supervisors as well as the likelihood of completion with the timeframe and resources a three-year PhD scholarship provides.

In this aspect a time frame is of great importance. It serves as basis for assessing whether the candidate has a realistic estimation of what one is able to complete in three years.

The budget should not include own salary. It is solely a budget for special expenses either related directly to the project (interview transcriptions, advanced statistical analyses, etc.) or special expenses to study/travel abroad during the education.

Applications must emailed to mdm-at-ruc.dk as well as be submitted in 5 print copies to:

The PhD School in Lifelong Learning and Social Psychology of Everyday Life
Roskilde University

PhD Scholarship 2009 in Denmark at Language Technology

July 11, 2009 by student scholarship · 1 Comment

PhD Scholarship 2009. The Centre for Language Technology, under the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Copenhagen, is inviting applications for a PhD scholarship in Language Technology starting 1 February, 2010 for a period of up to three years. The PhD scholar will be jointly associated with the Centre for Language Technology and the Department of Computer Science, both at the University of Copenhagen.

The PhD scholarship is announced within the interdisciplinary research area of Information Technology and Language, which combines knowledge in computer science with knowledge of linguistics. Large collections of written or spoken corpora are currently being developed for a large group of languages, including Danish. Tagged corpora make it possible to train machine learning algorithms and other statistical models which are able to extract different kinds of knowledge from language data.

PhD Scholarship from Denmark in Technical Engineering

September 18, 2007 by student scholarship · Leave a Comment

Technical University of Denmark offers PhD Scholarship – Structural Modelling of Wind Turbine Blades, Department of Mechanical Engineering. 1 PhD scholarship is available at the Department of Mechanical Engineering as soon as possible. Do you want to start a global career with a challenging job that makes a real difference? Do you want to develop innovative tools for future design of intelligent wind turbine blades?

The project
This project is motivated by the vision of being able to provide passive control of the dynamic behavior of wind turbine blades by utilizing the anisotropic properties of composite materials in an intelligent manner. To obtain this vision, one of the main building blocks needed is a general, fully coupled and validated beam element. Also needed are effective and exact methods for determination of stiffness and mass coefficients for such a beam element based on 3D geometry and material data for the blade. The purpose of this Ph.D. project is to develop such a fully coupled beam element.

The fully coupled beam element can be used in aeroelastic calculations to design the structure in order to reduce loading on the blade. Modern pitch-regulating wind turbines use control systems to reduce the blade loads. However, these systems are too slow to react to sudden wind changes. There is therefore high interest in building active or passive control systems into the blades to reduce especially fatigue loads. Passive systems are much more robust with respect to operation interruptions and it is desirable to use the anisotropic material properties for composites to optimize the load reduction behavior of the blades.
The Ph.D. project is part of a larger project supported by the Danish Energy Research Programme (EFP). The Ph.D. project is also partly supported by Vestas Wind Systems A/S, one of the worlds leading wind turbine companies.

Qualifications and work experience
The candidate should have a master degree in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master’s degree in engineering.

The candidate is expected to have a strong background in:

* Analytical modeling
* Mechanical problems especially involving beams
* The theory behind the finite element method
* Fiber reinforced composite materials

It is an advantage if the candidate has some experience with:

* Wind turbine design
* Aeroelastic codes

What we offer
We offer an exciting and challenging job in an international environment with good possibilities for professional and personal development. The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) is a leading technical university in northern Europe and benchmarks with the best universities in the world. Risø National Laboratory has recently been incorporated into DTU, forming a world leading environment in wind energy and disciplines associated with wind turbines. The successful candidate will become member of an environment with activities and expertise in structural mechanics and composite materials in the theoretical field, central to the present project, and the complementary experimental field. The activities are typically characterized by its innovative content and close cooperation with leading wind power companies.

The salary and appointment terms are consistent with the current rules for PhD degree students.

However, Ph.D. students in Denmark are supported by grants on a competitive level, being equivalent to a standard salary for an engineer with a similar experience in a normal job The Ph.D. stipend has a fixed duration of 3 years.
